Twitch Streamer Headset Under $50? - Logitech G430 Review!
Updated: Jun 13, 2019
Can the Logitech G430 headset be the best headset to get you started with gaming and streaming? Lets find out!
The Logitech G430 Headset has always been the budget friendly go-to headset for gamers and streamers. This headset comes equipped with 7.1 surround sound, lightweight construction, and more. But does the low price mean you forfeit quality? My quick answer - it’s perfect for any live streamer on Twitch, YouTube, etc. looking to make an upgrade to their gaming experience! But let’s take a closer look to see if you agree.
First, let’s dig into the PROS:
#1 Very lightweight
The Logitech G430 Headset is very comfortable to wear and is extremely lightweight. The band and ear cups are adjustable for many shapes and sizes of heads and can also accommodate those of you that wear glasses. I sometimes forget I’m even wearing them.
#2 Budget friendly Dolby 7.1 surround sound
Most entry level headsets do not come with Dolby 7.1 surround sound. You have to pay up if you want that feature in many cases. However, the Logitech G430 comes equipped with it for an extremely reasonable price. It offers a 360 degree rotation of sound so you can hear footsteps and can know directionally where sounds are coming from. This is great for really immersive gameplay. However, there is a slight downside to this feature, probably because of that low price point. Dolby 7.1 surround sound only works on a PC and you must download Logitech drivers in order to use it. I say it’s a small drawback to a cost friendly but higher end feature that still makes this feature an overall plus.
#3 On-cable controller
This headset has a great, simple to use but powerful on-cable controller, which I love. You’re able to adjust and control the volume, mute/unmute the mic and it has a handy little clip for clipping to your shirt or collar to keep the controls within easy reach while you are playing.
#4 Washable ear cups
One of the best features, but probably one that’s also overlooked are the washable ear cups. They are easily detached and can be thrown in the washer with the rest of your laundry to keep them clean and fresh. Hours of gameplay can cause sweat, grime and makeup build up (for all you lady gamers out there). Being able to toss the ear cups into the wash and clean them are a simple but fantastic bonus.
Now that we’ve looked at some key features that I think everyone will love, let’s look at the CONS:
#1 Ear cup pads don’t have great airflow
That’s right, those great ear cup pads I was just touting above also have a bit of a drawback. The sport performance cloth that they are made out of are great for being lightweight and washable, however, it can also cause heat to get trapped during long gaming sessions. I find that I sometimes must pull the headset off to release some heat and it can get sticky feeling under there.
#2 Ear cup pads easily collect dirt and grime
In addition to the airflow not being optimal, the ear cup pads can and will collect dirt and grime. The good news is you can wash it away because they are washable! You just may have to wash them a little more frequently than you would like.
So there you have it - the pros and cons of the headset out of the box. But how do they perform? Watch my video review to hear my mic tests - out of the box 3.5mm jack vs the included USB sound card attachment, frequency response and angle of capture, and plosive/air push tests. And at the end I give you two huge bonus tips!
